I wonder if this a typical haiku poet experience - there's always something to distract one away...
Matt: In this instance the noise of the coots and their ferocity towards each other was enough to make me lose concentration, and make it an out of the ordinary experience…
Made me smile - clearly they thought you'd had enough discussion and it was time to get your attention so you'd write about them, and it worked!
