I guess those are primroses. When we lived in Switzerland we saw them early in the spring in the woods. We tried hard not to step on them when we went for our walks.

if i may step in: yes, Adelaide, they are primroses. our woodlands and meadows can be full of them in early spring. some blossoms produce a trumpeting sound if you blow into them (their Slovene name is 'trobentica' which means little trumpet) and we would eat the blossoms when we could blow no more :)
