Hi Frank - this reminds me of a time when I was a geology student (20 years ago) on a mountain in Wales, when I decided not to jump off what I thought was a step down to a slightly lower level, because I realised that I couldn't see what I was about to leap down to (foggy). I caught myself just in time.

I then sat down to consider it and write up some notes about tuffs and rhyolites in my notebook. When I stopped writing and thought I'd have a go gently lowering myself off the edge, the fog had cleared and I was looking at a drop of 100 ft or more. Gulp!
