morning mist 

mind & eyes follow

a falling leaf

SEASON'S GREETINGS!

from the train...
through thick fog a drift
of birds on the wing

mid-morning stillness...

bright dewdrops cling

to the washing line

sunlit path—snaking
around dying leaves
miles of snail trails

i say stop

with eyes closed

just a crisp tick-tock

twitchers' silence

a kingfisher’s blue ember

sparks right to left

form collages

a silhouette dusk...

just chimney hopping 
a quartet of magpies 

awaiting a bus...

at twilight the moon glides

behind a mackerel cloud

The Soprano

lunchtime recital...

the soprano’s gestures

turn into song

she hits a high note...

the hall a bubble

fit to burst

twilight corner

a puff of wind suddenly

moves the paper bag 

heat wave—

green bottle flies spark

on... off the dog’s shit

£1 shop

another hunt

for that needle

sticky evening
bumming a ride on this bus
a flying ant

sunrise
for a short while
the town is gold

heat wave

a journey filled with
car horns sounding

A Shropshire Garden

blue skies & white clouds

a crow glides into

a silhouette of trees

holiday monday...

baby clothes strewn

outside the charity shop

      bridge over the Teme

      rippling shadows under

      its furthest arch

      riverside stroll
      ducks & quacks disappear
      under a canopy of trees

      jotting down my haiku
      a black fly lands
      on my moving pen

my mind tranquil—

sambucus flowers

scent a warm breeze

stone statue

your beaming smile

of a thousand years

mouthless statue

you’ve been struggling to speak

for a thousand years

      fine rain in wind

      from cut grass and flowers

               a nosegay of scents

daydreaming...

through the café window

      a cascade of bubbles

     church bathed in light—

     the mixed choir’s

     singular voice 

      May blossoms...

      captured by nose

      and then by camera

low evening sun

this other world

of shifting shadows

knick-knack cabinet

filled to bursting

with wordless haiku

day after day

the same web and leaf

tucked in a corner

after eating...
gravy left on my plate
is buzzed by a black fly

evening blues...

behind chain-link fencing

daffodils nodding

dull and drizzly

a child asks, “why

are the clouds crying”

a quick swirl

and... the crows tumble

into their roost

navy-blue twilight

a slinking black cat

sticks close to the wall

intermittent gusts

a drink can clonks
against the brick wall

awake... asleep

this night’s never

ending journey
